Killer app: VoIP on iPhone
Hello everybody!
I really like all those great apps that are requested here, but I just don't get it, how is it possible that THE KILLER APP at all for iPhone gets so little attention.
I am talking about VOIP on iPhone. THIS would be so huge and important, I can't stress it often enough!
Try to imagine: thanks to free WiFi we could talk for free - absolutely free!! Without any stress!! Abroad in Australia or at home in Europe/USA. Free!!
And now, the only thing I found is a strange guy from Truphone who pretends to develop something, but after already so much time - absolutely nothing than just a little PR in the news to promote his website.
I don't care who does it, I want a VoIP client - i PAY for it, and for me and many of my colleagues, THIS IS THE Killer App for the iPhone.
Why is it sooo complicated? I don't get it?
The developer could earn like crazy offering a real VoIP client for the iPhone! Instead of concentrating on some strange Doom ports or the 8th SMS app or I dont know what.
Hope, I am not alone with my opinion!
Thanks for your feedback!
Your Happy

The thing is, these things take time to develop.
The Truphone people are probably working on a VoIP solution for the iPhone.
What makes you think that Truphone isn't developing it?
3.1 iPhone 3G[S], Jailbroken with Pwnage Tool v3.1.3, Unlocked with Ultrasn0w, AT&T Sim Card

Because if I would be the developer of such a killer app, I would have a blog where i keep the people who are interested updated. By doing it, I keep the customers informed, I can ask for their feedback, for their wishes, for their ideas. I can make first beta tests, I can publish first screenshots to make people feel that they should wait for exactly this one solution.
And not write once every 4 weeks one unprofessional post in a public forum where nobody finds it.
People - stop thinking that any normal iPhone users (as they are defined by Apple Marketing) - are geeks who check forums like these!! Normal people want to see something, want to communicate. Just any proves of life.
VoIP for iPhone is a at least 1-5 million dollar business, and not a geeky experiment!!

From Mobile Business Magazine
"Not wanting to upset Steve Jobs, Tim emphasized that it was only a demo and not intended to be a commercial launch." and "This program doesn't do anything that Steve Jobs says not to do,"
Caring what Steve Jobs thinks seems like a bad sign.

What kind of developer it has to be, that could develop an iPhone application?
Which languages are that? Especially the VoIP app?

we specially need a SIP client. such as IsoftPhone on OSX which can be ported easily i think, we just need to wait that someone get his hand on this work.

I completely agree.
1. It is indeed a killer app for those that travel overseas
2. It is the one third party app that Apple will NOT do because of their allegiance to phone providers

you said it: Apple will not do it, but third parties.....the problem is that the SDK will not be released until February, so i guess we will have to wait a few more months.
but i doubt apple will let such an app get installed on their precious.
Gphone, if it released one day could be the solution, even as a web.app

It would be great indeed. But for a starter can't we just use our iphone to call via skype using our computer. I mean I am a skype user and I use the IPEVO handset to make my international calls almost everyday , why isn't there a plugin that would allow me to use my iphone via BT instead of my IPEVO usb handset?
That would be a starter, no?
And please lets not talk about that crappy skype4iphone stuff, it's a total bull crap... it's weird, you have to make your call and then wait for the other person to call you back, and you pay twice as much as a normal skype out call...

I dont want to replace anything. I just want a SIP VoIP client, so that when I am abroad - that I can talk for free when I am in WiFi zone! Not more, not less.
