iPhonelockbox edit from PC or Mac?
Hi
As a sys admin, I need to have all the required passes, logins, other information with me all the time, and so far I was using a hidden text file, but just found out about iphonelockbox which would be outstanding if I could just enter all my info from a Mac or any PC for that matter.
I saw it saves info in a .db file which can be anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Ben

I switched over to PasswordWallet for the same purpose. It allows entry and lookup on the Mac, can autosync with the iPhone, and since it saves the data in an encrypted Bookmarklet and is a commercial app, it has a better shot at future support. It's a bit on the expensive side, but worth it to me.

Hi
Thanks for picking this one up with me.
I checked your link, thanks.I am not too crazy about web apps, would rather have something static. I have my phone hacked, so installing native apps is not an issue
I still wonder if this iphonelockbox can be somehow edited on a mac
Thanks

I totally agree about web apps, but this does have a major difference: It's 100% locally stored on the iPhone. The application itself and data are both stored in the encrypted Bookmarklet, which shows up in Safari as a standard bookmark. I tried iphonelockbox first, but editing on the phone was just WAY too much work fo me. Before dismissing it, you might check out the free demo.
Still, I'm sure in the Spring someone will come out with a 2-way native app, I'm hoping it will be Splash ID, which I used on my Treo and loved.

I further fiddled with the idea of actually manually entering my info in it, but was scared loosing it once I restore the phone, etc.
I created a few dummy entries, and then backed up the
/var/root/Library/Lockbox/Lockbox_v1.dat
file, then deleted it from the phone. Upon restart of the app, it again asks for a new password, and you start off with a new database. Then I overwrote the new .dat file with the one I backed up, and restarted the lockbox. It asked for the password, I gave the "old" files password, and sure enough, all backed up data was right there.
This means, that once I suffer in all my info through the iphone screen, I will then have the database. And with some luck, if the developer wont change anything major in the future, I can keep it with me at all times.
Just thought of sharing my findings.
I still prefer this app over the Safari bookmark, dont know why though...
Cheers

With any luck, all of this will become moot in a few months. I read an announcement (though I've been unable to verify it) that SplashID will be made available for the iPhone after the SDK is released by Apple. This was my favorite password manager by far for the Treo, with syncronizing Desktop applications for both Mac & Windows. PasswordWallet is serving me well for now, but I'll drop it in a heartbeat for a native version of SplashID.

I am going to keep an eye out for SplashID definetally.
With the SDK available, I am sure we will start seeing a lot of interesting, and useful apps. With the iPhone being so advanced, I am sure it will blow the WM phones our of the water easily. I already like it more, imagine if apps will be available

I'll support migration of any old databases, so don't worry. I'll be starting work on an import/export tool here soon (It's by far the #1 demanded feature). I need to explore some more ideas for syncing though, but I might wait until the official SDK comes out for that.

I played with the idea of porting the TCL/TK based Password Gorilla (Password Safe) also to the iPhone.
I did the MAC application and it perfectly acceses the database accross windows, mac, or anything else that can run TCL.
but unfortunately I lack the knowledge to get TCL/TK up and running on the iPhone.
I only came that far to realize that TCL is there, but TK does not work.
By reusing this open framework it would have been so easy :-(

An idea, why dont you keep all the data encripted inside a contact register note field, that way you have all the data backed up everytime you sync contacts.
I know a proper conduit would be better, but till february this hack could work.
