Interesting thought - Safari running websites off iPhone harddrive
As I was looking yesterday through all the applications availablefor the iphone that are web-based as opposed to native ones, I was wondering if there was any way to store html+other files on the phone and have Safari run them off the harddrive? Or maybe there is some way someone can program a patch or app for safari to do this? It might open up the door for a lot more options regarding third party apps and what can be done with them..
Just a thoguht

there is software you need.
you can use "Apache" (installer.app) to have a server running on your iPhone (so far only apache, no PHP/mysql).
you then can browse there by "localhost"

Apache is cool, but might be overkill. And doesn't it reduce your battery life?
You can also convert HTML, images, PDFs, etc. into bookmarks that you can sync from your PC's Safari to the iPhone. These are not bookmarks in the traditional sense, although the browser treats them as such. Instead of pointing your browser in the direction of an external site, the bookmark provides all data for a web page or other content on it's own. There are online converters that will do this for you. Here's some more info:

The Apache does work, but without some kind of middleware (eg: PHP, Rails, mod_perl) it's not terribly useful. However, when/if one of these is running on the iPhone, then you'll basically be able to develop web-based apps that you can run locally, regardless of network connection. I've said it before - having Rails with an SQLite backend on the iPhone would be very sweet.

well all i'd need on apache is:
Apache, mod_rewrite, PHP (4/5 doesnt matte), MySQL.
how cool would that be, having your portfolio always handy, no matter wheter you're online or not. joining an ad-hoc network, browsing the iPhones IP and have your portfolio with you.
i mean, THAT would be "wow, didnt knew the iPhone can do soo much"
