Just installed the books.app and after completion (and exiting) it restarting the springboard as expected. But that’s as far as it got, pinwheel never disappeared, eventually got sick of waiting and gave it the power-home hard reset to restart.

So looks like I am stuck with no phone for the day… hopefully I can sort it out over ssh when I get home tonight

You have probably reached the installed Applications limit, especially if you don't have Summerboard installed.

SSH in your phone and manually move out the Books.app of the Applications folder to make sure it is the problem. Once moved out, the phone should be able to load Springboard.

Usually i find that just leaving the phone switched off for 15-20 mins cures it. mine does that alot and as i said leaving off for a bit it usually then starts up again

Have just done a rough estimate of applications I have installed (including apps hidden with poof) and came out with a number in the realm of 77!

So you could be right on the money here.


[suggestion] for installer 3.12 – Check number of folders existing in /Applications directory and warn if you are about to exceed limit!

SummerBoard 3.2 will solve the 70 app limit; just install it, and you will not have that problem anymore. You are still limited by the 9 SpringBoard limit (including apps and webclips), but you will no longer get the spinning wheel once you reach 70 apps if you install SummerBoard 3.2. Well if its stuff on the boot logo then you won't be able to ssh, so what your going to need to do is put it into dfu or restore mode restore it to the firmware and then re-jailbreak it.
