Has a video player been released?
Just wondering, would be nice to play DivX and XviD format files on my iPhone without having to convert them.
Any ideas?

Hi guys,
The player I'm working on "FreePod", is still a ways off from being useable. There's a lot that goes in to this kind of software and I'm working hard on OpenLink, another project of mine as well... but it is almost finished. The XVIDCore codec that I ported to the Iphone is working great though, so I may release that on it's own, in case someone else has the ambition to bring a DIVX/XVID player app to full fruition. I also have some general UI functionality working, so if someone wants to look at that, I will probably open source the whole thing soon.

Is it not possible to get the the xvid-codec be used by the built-in video player? Does the coded use the MPEG4 hardware decode chip at all?
Or do you have a barebones command line player that you have been using to test the XVID codec?
In short is there any way to leverage the codec if you were to release it before you released a player?

I'm not sure what would be involved in hooking this up as an Ipod.app codec... but I can tell you it would not be simple.
The codec itself DOES work, but it has it's own API that is not compatible with Ipod.app... it would have to be wrapped in some way to add that compatability, and I'm not sure if Apple even meant for Ipod.app to be extensible in this way.
I have posted XVIDCore codec to my site and an example program, which loads DIVX/XVID and dumps frames to .tga files. This is the program I was using to adapt for use in FreePod.app. FreePod.app source is also now posted on my site. Any developers wishing to help and offer suggestions, or to spawn a new project from this are welcome to do so !

Are there any instructions on how to install/use this?
Thanks for your hard work!
