AudioScrobbler client for Apple iPhone
I've just released an AudioScrobbler client for the Apple iPhone.
- Automatically submits songs as you listen to them
- Works over EDGE or Wifi
- Queues songs when you're in an area with no signal
- Source code available under GNU General Public License version 2
Check it out: http://dev.c99.org/MobileScrobbler/
It also works on the iPod Touch, however it doesn't perform quite as well due the lack of an always-available internet connection.

Sam, thank you so much for developing this app! I'm a long time Last.fm addict, and I've been craving an iPhone scrobbler since the day I got the phone. Awesome work!

Alright, after some using I have to say... this program is awesome.. VERY awesome.
My only complaints:
There needs to be a way to save some of your searches, because it's annoying typing in the same name whenever you open the app
Also, I think the sound needs to be increased, if that's at all possible.
Other than that, great job.

Hi!
Great app, I hope streaming over EDGE will be possible soon ;-)
Maybe you could add a setting to enable it for those who want to try or who have a good EDGE coverage?
Thank you for making such a great app, keep up the good work ;-)

Hmm, yeah I thought this was supposed to work over EDGE, but today I gave it a try and it tells me I don't have a WIFI connection, so it wouldn't play..
Maybe you can help me out, but I am also frequently getting another error, I don't know the exact wording, but it tells me to check my settings, and doesn't play any music.
Edit:
The error I get more often than not is:
"Playback failed
Unable to start playing. Please check your network settings and try again shortly"

I'd say the fact that it doesn't play over Edge is actually a good thing. First, you really don't want to have it buffer every 1/4-second. Seriously, it'd be useless. Second, you don't want to piss off your cell provider. Third, I'd imagine the developer is gearing up for the official iPhone SDK, so he's just being smart. There's no way in hell Apple/ATT will allow an application like this to access streamed track-after-track media over Edge.
Anyway, I'll second the motion that MobileScrobbler rocks socks. Without this app, I would never have cared enough to get into Last.fm. I was already happy when it was just scrobbling my tracks, and now that it handles streaming from Last.fm, I'm happy as can be. It's funny, just the other day I was thinking that somewhere down the road this app would hopefully incorporate this functionality...I didn't imagine it was that close to actually happening!

Version 1.1.2 should fix the volume issue and the problem with songs stuck in the queue.
As for the network error message, it means it wasn't able to start receiving any data from last.fm within 30 seconds. I can try increasing the timeout for people with slower connections, but re-buffering doesn't work properly so if your internet connection is too slow, the songs will stop playing when they run out of data.
This is also the reason streaming over EDGE is disabled. The EDGE network is just too slow in most areas to handle it. In my area, I can play about 10 seconds of music before it runs out of data.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoy the application.
