Answering Machine App?
Hey friends, I just wanted to know.... Is anybody working on any answering machine app for the iPhone? There are tons of answering machine apps for Symbian, with many features like -
* Answering incoming calls after the predefined time
* Playing one of the prerecorded responses to the phone line
* Recording a voice message
* Pick up and Hang up are possible at any time while AM is answering the call
* All voice messages are stored locally and are available at any time
* A special view allows you to manage recorded voice messages
* Caller phone number along with the date and time of the call are stored
I know that the network provided Voicemail feature does it, but this is better as it can get you something like "visual voicemail" on any network and you dont need to pay charges to the network provider for it. Moreover, it is easily customisable.
My iPhone --- 1.0.2 --> 1.1.1 --> 1.1.2 --> 1.1.3 --> 1.1.4 --> 2.0.1 --> 2.0.2 --> 2.1 Pwned(Thanx to the guides in this wunderful forum)

Another alternative could be to sleuth the mail client for emails from YouMail. I've been using them for a while now (it's an Voicemail Service that allows you to consolidate all your voicemails into a single account, define greetings based on each individual (or group of) callers, and it emails you the MP3 or WAV file).
What I'd be looking for is:
- detect if there is an email from YouMail with MP3 or WAV attachment
- retrieve the MP3 or WAV attachment and meta-data
- cross-code to AMR
- store in the Visual Voicemail database
- remove YouMail email from iPhone inbox
That way we could use the Visual Voicemail software to see the voicemails from any carrier.
Disadvantage/question: I'm not sure how many local numbers YouMail has outside the US. For more info, see http://www.youmail.com
