[Advice] Unofficial Native Apps update slowed down since the iPhone SDK announce ?
Has anyone notice that we have almost none of app updates in the last month ? Is this a sign that everyone has abandoned Installer and we will must buy every app from now on. Because Amrut hasnt updated SMSd for a LOOOONG time, last BETA is out 2 months ago, MobileChat also, MXTube etc. and all of them need much improvement on bugs and new features. Im thinking that all of us need another 400-500 USD for apps that we use now for free and that is s**ty. Especially if the prices would be like Caterpillars !! We will need 1000-2000 USD for apps only...so why should we hate warez :-)
Cheers

I am sure that some developers are waiting to put their applications on the AppStore. That does not necesarily mean that all of them will charge money. And some applications, like SMS and MMS applications, will likely not be able to be sold under the AppStore, as Apple is restricting use of certain iPhone functionality. Some developers may have seen that they cannot profit from such applications and have decided to focus on developing applications that they will be able to sell. But here is an app that was updated today: http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=21810 .
Even developers need to eat and pay rent, you know. If they charge too much for apps, then people will not buy them, so they will likely charge less if there is more competition. With respect to your warez question, the reason why it should not be allowed is because it is illegal. If warez can be posted on this site, it will be shut down and you will not be able to post anymore. That is the reason. Also, I am sure that you wouldn't like to have people steal from you, and that is what you are doing when you use warez - you are stealing from people who had the idea to create a product that you could have chosen to purchase or not purchase. Today's lesson is over.

Freeware apps are not warez.
Cracking Catepillar because you want the app, but don't want to pay for it is warez.

I don't mean any disrespect to the OP. I purchased Caterpillar when it first came out, but I thought that it was priced aggressively. However, the Rip Dev people have update the application a few times and have added new functionality. To me, it is becoming worth it. And I will not be happy if Rip Dev ports Caterpillar to the AppStore and then charges me for it again. But I am sure that this would not happen, as they would lose customers, and Caterpillar may not be permitted in the AppStore, as it modified some of the functionality that Apple deems off limits. And many of the freeware programs are great, but at some point, we will have to pay for applications, as we do on other platforms. And in order for people to create better applications with more functionality, they will need to be paid for it. Otherwise, they will develop for another platform, and we will lose out. Of course, I do not think that developers should rip off users, and users should not buy applications of developers who are trying to do this.
I am in favor of applications having a trial period or limited functionality if they are free so that users can decide if they are useful to that user. But that does not mean that they should all remain free. And I am not a developer, but I expect to get paid for work that I perform.

45 bucks only for Caterpillar is way too much. Photoshop CS3 costs 650 USD, Windows XP costs around 100-150 USD and 45 USD for this app is too much. Of course, if its too much I dont buy it but still I think that any app for mobile phone shouldnt be over 20 USD max...

I agree with you on that point. I just couldn't resist that Caterpillar! They have added some features which have made the application more useful for me, but I believe that Rip Dev is not maximizing the revenue that it could receive by charging such a high amount for the application. It makes it more bearable because it is a bundle of apps, but some of the functionality is available for free. I do not think that any developer should charge until the AppStore is out, but, at this point, it is acceptable for them to ask for donations if they have created a fully functioning and useful product.
