80GB on iPhone, not ideal but could be cool...
So I had an idea for how to get up to 80GB of stuff on your iPhone. I own and 80GB iPod and have just purchased an 8GB iPhone. Im going to miss my 80GB of music on the go, but phone integration with automated music pausing etc. is a real temptation. Not having to carry two devices would be nice but... 80GB would be even better so, what if we could hook up the two. I mean given all the native software hacks, it seems like it would be possible to use a 30 pin to 30 pin connector cable and have the iPhone read of an iPod. What do people think?

If we can hack together a USB host driver for the iPhone, this would be a very simple hack. Problem being, the USB host mode may or may not be enabled in the iPhone's hardware, if it is even there in the first place. If it's there and all the proper components are connected, I would expect a driver at some point from these hackers that seem to know no bounds
. Otherwise, there is no chance.

Though I cant actually do it my self some how I dont think he driver will be a problem. We've got a fairly robust OSX and an a widly used ARM chip. Think the trick is how to make the iPod part of the iPhone use the mounted disk. I thought maybe we could move the real music dir and then sym link the mounted disk but who knows. To mount the disk might not be so bad. Think of this tool: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...&nplm=M9861G/B
It could also be used to get a double male 30 pin connector.

jleidigh, it seems that the Ipod video have usb otg port. But until now no one know whether or not the iPhone have USB host enable. If not, we face a very difficult situation.

Yeah, if we could get the iPod connected, then it would just be a matter of a couple of sym links (assuming all the db files are the same). But you're forgetting the biggest part: the iPhone needs to have USB host mode for this to work.
