Just to clarify, ashganatra's not ripping anyone off. Allow me to explain. I don't know

some things to consider:
1. With taxes in New York, the 8GB tacks on an additional $53. So, your base price is
Rs.27,000, not 23,600 (by the way, $600 is Rs 24,700 right now). Other parts of the
US are cheaper, but let's assume he's in a high tax state.
2. Add another $20 for currency conversion. Markets fluctuate and banks aren't fair
(I make money in the US and live in India. I've gotten screwed out of thousands
because of it). You're now at a little under Rs. 28,000.
2. If he's bringing anything into the country, he MUST declare it in customs. I don't
think anyone should take a chance on that.
I don't know how much duty will cost, but it will cost something, especially if he
brings in more than one. From past experience (see below, item 3), let's assume
20%. Now you're talking under Rs.33,000.
It could be less. Maybe I just got screwed for having an American accent. Or, maybe
it's different for mail than it is by hand.
3. Unless you know someone in the US who'll bring it to you, you have to deal with
customs in any case. Buy it on eBay (it's not like Apple will mail it here), and you
have to deal with extra charges, the possibility of it getting lost (or not shipped at all),
To top it off, the post office here is ridiculous. When I got my MacBook Pro back from
repairs, it took a month to arrive, and I had to go two days in a row (the first day
they shut the post office after I waited for four hours and told me to come back the
next day), and I paid $80 (rs 3,600 at the time. It would've been more, but I
declared the value of the laptop at $400).
10 hours of travel and wait over two days, one month delivery, and $80 out of
4. If you go to the grey market (like Heera Panna in Bombay), you'll be hard-pressed
to find one at all. There are people in this country who want it, but there's no supply.
Not in the least.
It's the same with the Wii. When I asked about it in February, many shops were
quoting $400 more than it sells for in the US. It is STILL at around $150 more than
the US price.
5. Which leads me to my final point. Supply and demand. There's demand, but no
supply. He can set the price at whatever he wants, since he's not running a charity.
In fact, I know of two people that have bought it in India for around the same price.
He's priced it at the going rate around here.
Is Rs.50,000 steep? If you can't hop over to the US and don't trust the Indian Post,
and can't wait to get one, and are willing to pay more for it, then it's priced
He's not pulling the wool over anyone's eyes and, therefore, he's not ripping anyone
