I have tried both cd cdrive, and external drive as the highest boot priority and all permutations of them. (No change)
I have disabled quiet boot and quiet boot and now if I hit power on my eeepc with the external drive connected it displays a black screen with American megatrends at the top.

I've upgraded the firmware for the DVD drive to the latest firmeware, but that has made no difference.
There might be a workaround but I'd like to fix this problem as there's either a problem with the dvd drive or my eee pc.
4. When I'm in XP the dvd drive works perfectly/is detected ect. And I can use the drive to burn dvds on both my eeepc and my desktop apple and my dell pc.
