Default AFP on 2.4 OTB (FIXED !!!!!:)

i try to get AFP on my fresh new 2.4 oTB

on various website ppl say i need to create recovery.dmg 1.0 with the help of original 1.0 (OS-dot-DMG 1.0.dmg) the original, unmodified Apple TV OS 1.0

so i follow this tutorial :

1. On ATV: sudo dd if=/dev/disk0s2 of=recovery2.dmg bs=1m
2. On Mac: scp frontrow@IP:recovery2.dmg .
3. On Mac: open recovery2.dmg
4. On Mac: rename the OS.dmg on the mounted partition, copy the 1.0 OS.dmg and name it OS.dmg (free space still 3MB)
5. On Mac: scp recovery2.dmg frontrow@IPocuments/recovery.dmg
6. On ATV: start the nito Smart Installer

but when i try to add os.dmg inside my recovery2.dmg (2.4 atv)
i got error message "no space left"

thanks all for your help and sorry for my poor english

you will most likely need to resize the recovery.dmg i dont remember exactly how to do this but im sure there should be a way to do it in apples disc utility (applications/utilities/disk utility)

thanks for you info, i just found the right command :

1. Mount the image
2. Delete the files you don't need.
3. Dismount image.
4. From the terminal : hdiutil resize -size xx{m or g} /PATH/TO/DISKIMAGE.dmg
xx= the size you want the image to be.
Use either M for MG or G for GB

i.e. hdiutil resize -size 25g ~/Desktop/mystuff.dmg

Default AFP on 2.4 and 2.3.1

Hello to all.

You are doing everything correctly. You need to empty your trash before coping the os.dmg backinto the recovery.dmg. It should go in then. If not you get the error No space left.

I copied with SSH client or SSH terminal the MacOSXUpdCombo10.4.9intel.pkg and your Newly modified Recovery.dmg to ~/Documents on the apple tv.

make sure Nito version 0.8 is installed or updated it first. Go to the nito menu Settings, Install software. Choose Smartinstaller.

Reboot and the way you go.

On your mac, Go,conect to server, afp:// "ip address" of your apple tv and it will show your mounts.

AppleTv to mac
Network

There are two "sections" in the Network facade. Bonjour mounts and custom mounts.
[edit]Bonjour Mounts
Anything above the line are computers that have been discovered via bonjour (mac users, think the "Network" section in the sidebar) These will all have "afpovertcp" to the right of them. Selecting play/pause on these items will prompt with a login type dialog, here is where you choose whether or not you have a registered account or a guest account. You must have guest access enabled on the computer for guest to work here. (NOTE: There will not be any GUI warning or error if guest access fails, you will simply be taken back to the root network facade) Upon choosing registered user you will get a prompt to put in your login then password. Upon proper authentication information you will be directed to a Volumes listing.
This is very important, in the Volumes listing you have two options, you can press play/pause to mount the volume (but no information will be saved) OR you can press > and get the mount facade. Here you MUST choose save before mounting, if you choose mount and you don't save you will lose this mount information. You may choose to turn on automounting if you desire (this will take care of mounting at startup) in addition you can choose whether or not use custom paths.
Regardless of Bonjour Mount or Custom Mount, keep your computer name, username and password to letters and numbers - NO special Characters i.e. *-,.$%# etc etc If you have anything like that in the areas mentioned you will likely get a mount error.

If you screw up you will blow the plugin and if you choose network it reboots your ATV. You can delete a file to stop this. I just do not remember which one.. Sorry. I done this 4 times and always worked for me.

I got AFP server running on the ATV on version 3.0 and I can access the files of the ATV from my MBP

I want however to also access my timecapsule on the ATV.

everytime I access the TC under appleTV I get a 1069 error accessing the share.

With the samba client and I can access the TC, only Samba is not as stable and reliable as AFP.

does anyone know how to enable AFP client on the ATV ?
