I copied a HD movie on the apple tv hard drive. the file format is .mkv
i noticed that the audio works correctly, but the image freezes. it goes slow, and than freezes at all. do you know if there is some kind of problem with mkv and/or high resolution ? apple movie trailer in hd works correctly. another thing: i need to play movies with nito, sapphire keeps rebooting, any idea ? My Atv is hacked with atvflash and all the applications are up to date. Last edited by aristotele; 09-07-2009 at 02:19 PM. |

MKV files tend to have high profile streams, where as Apple's trailers are main profile. This make a big CPU difference. In addition, if you didn't disable Apple's H.264 codec, then that is the reason for your crash. Apple's codec crashes on high profile streams; Perian can play it.

EDIT:
i just deactivated the apple h.264 (under maintenance - settings) trying to start the movie with nitotv makes it play audio but shows green screen (audio is fine) using sapphire audio seems fine but image freezes just before. any suggestion ? hey, thanks for your reply. i'm really new to this (my Atv is 2 days old). how can i do this ? First you need to restart the UI interface for disabling or enabling of codecs to take effect.
Second, I mentioned there is a big CPU difference between main profile and high profile. High profile will not play well on the ATV unless under very specific circumstances. A majority of the MKV files have high profile streams which are well beyond the ATV's processing power to decode in real time. The hardware is not sufficient to play this. |
