5.1 Sound - no luck

I converted MKV file to MOV and it has AAC audio track with 6 channels. However playback on ATV only does stereo

What did you convert with. It should work fine?

5.1 AAC will not passthrough. The only acceptable multichannel audio for passthrough is AC3 and DTS. Those two bitstreams and stereo PCM audio are all that's allowed on the optical link.

On the other hand, it should be able to do 5.1 of any audio on the HDMI, but I have no idea if the ATV actually works that way.
