is the video_ts folder embedded inside another folder? ie ~/Movies/MY_DVD/VIDEO_TS?
or is it more like ~/Movies/VIDEO_TS? if its the second that will NOT work.
second off the VIDEO_TS folder needs to be structured properly, it cant just have VOB files in it, it needs all the corresponding BUP and IFO files as well to play back properly, i dont think it should crash the finder if those requisites aren't filled but i guess it could happen. have you run the smart installer? if not the dvd should at least play in MPlayer, tested it within the last few versions i have released and mplayer dvd playback SHOULD work. you do have the latest nitoTV installed right? i think it should be 0.7.4.
it is also highly recommended if you dont need something that is included in 2.2+ to downgrade your appletv to 2.1 to get the best performance out of nitoTV
if it just restarts the finder and not the appletv completely i recommend checking the console.log file which can be checked in nitoTV->settings->view console log. or by sshing in - all the useful log locations for debugging the finder or nitoTV are all mentioned here
