Default tired and confused! File location for avi movies

Hi Guys. And i thought the early iphone hack was difficult! I have recently hacked my apple tv with ssh and now want to put movie files onto the apple tv drive. Where do I locate the files so nitotv can see them? I dont seem to have a movie folder just a shortcut. Sorry for the dumb question...been a long day!

For NitoTV and ATVfiles you should place the movies in

/users/frontrow/movies

e.g. if your AppleTV's IP address is 172.16.0.30 then

scp mymovie.avi frontrow@172.16.0.30:/users/frontrow/movies

You did not attach anything

Yes as you indicate the USERS is an alias. The true path is /mnt/Scratch/users/frontrow/movies

Try using FUGU its really good. Its not a universal app but works fine on Intel Macs.

You don't have to use terminal. That was just an example.

There a quite a few apps you can use (http://rsug.itd.umich.edu/software/fugu/ as I mentioned). You can also turn on Personal File Sharing (AFP) so that you can connect to the Apple TV using finder on your MAC. This website shows you how to do it : http://wiki.awkwardtv.org/wiki/Enable_AFP_Server

Thanks. I really appreciate your help. For some reason I had enabled file sharing when I did the drive os load but it dosent seem to connect through the finder. When I am more awake I will try the wiki afp. Cheers David

Hi I tried using fugu (great name) to transfer the applefileserver file to the apple tv but get a permission denied. I have tried chaging sudo to read/write but it dosent seem to work. Any suggestions? I would reboot the atv from my external drive again but it only seems to let me do it once befoe I have to rebuild the drive each time???

Cheers

David

The best thing to do is copy it to /users/frontrow first (cos you have write access to that directory) and then connect to the appletv using terminal and copy the app to the correct place

e.g.

sudo cp -r /users/frontrow/AppleFileServer.app /Volumes/OSBoot/System/Library/CoreServices/AppleFileServer.app
