not sure i ever had any massive problems in 2.3.1 of that nature, things would get sluggish after a while but never immediately.

on a different note for dafranca on the tbz package installer, i added some information on the wiki about the tbz files.

I seem to be able to play off afp/smb remote mounts just fine via the Files subsection. But while a video is playing the Apple remote can't control anything (pause, play, etc...). It can only stop the playing via the menu button. Is remote control not available at this time (I am using ATV2.3, nitoTV .73). It works in XBMC and works in a wierd way via ATVFiles.

Another thing. If I set the playback to mplayer as opposed to Quicktime I just get a black screen...

Am new to the ATV and to nitoTV so perhaps these are all known issues?

i gear nitoTV mainly towards 2.1 but every version release has been tested up to 2.3.1 so not sure what the problem would be there. i look into it when i have some time to do so, hitting the end of my semester at school so time is sparse.

Hi Nito, Thanks for the very awesome NitoTv. I got an ATV last weekend and used atvusb-creator-1.0.b10 to create a patchstick so I could enable ssh and install SoftwareMenu. I noticed that SoftwareMenu on the patchstick was time stamped 11/22/08 (v0.71?) so I replaced it with v0.9.1 off the iscripts website. Then I used SoftwareMenu to install NitoTv v0.7.3.

Question: I wanted to use a Keyboard/Mouse with the ATV. I installed Smart Installer and (everything else) in nitoTv->Settings->Install Sofware. This should enable the USB port right? I plugged in a keyboard/mouse and it powered on the keyb/mouse but it didn't seem to do anything on the screen, e.g. pressing keys didn't change menu options, no cursor... Could you let me know what test I can perform to check if the keyboard or mouse is working, basically a 'sanity check'? Do I need to run Firefox or some non-ATV app that uses the keyb for input??

Any help appreciated. Cheers.

the keyboard will not work in the AppleTV environment (when frontrow is up), the keyboard will only work if you run the couchsurfer install which also installs keyboard magic (just the keyboard) and it will ONLY work in text entry scenes and no where else. the appletv frontrow/finder application ignores the keyboard and mouse by default. running apps in front of the appletv finder is the only place where they keyboard and mouse will work as you would expect it to normally.

Thumbs up

OK. Thanks for the sanity check. Once I ran firefox, I was able to try the keyb/mouse - worked fine. Thanks again.

Ok, I finally got it all working with the Apple Remote. I am at ATV2.3.1, but it worked in 2.3 . I haven't tried the mplayer route yet as Quicktime with perian works great.

Does smb mounting work in nitoTV .74 ? I've been using nitoTV to handle adding mounts manually since version .72 and it's always worked great. Now it just can't create a socket. Am doing exactly what I always have. I know smb works as I can add a mount from the shell as user frontrow. So I would type something like

mount_smbfs //guest@xx.xx.xx.x/v1 /mnt/Scratch/Volumes/sv1

v1 is the volume name of the smb export from the server. This creates a mount sv1 which also appears in ~Movies/sv1

Oddly enough, I can use afp and nitoTV to manually add a mount and it works fine (always has). So perhaps something changed between .73 and .74?

thank's...ls
