It's odd. It just starting working after I rebooted the system a couple of times. I could see a bit of the screen release issue for a sec and then it worked.

I am having trouble with my apple tv I found some steps online they all worked got everything installed. When I get to install the smart installer I get a partial or failed response everything is good on the install except the line that reads like this

nitohelper[175] xml parser error:

unexpected character h at line 1

old-stytle plist parser error:

unexpected ";" or "=" after key at line 1

mount: /users/frontrow/documents/macosxupdcombo10.4.9intel.dmg failed

Enable an External Hard Drive on Your Apple TV | Highly Essential Those are the instructions I found.

did you copy the dmg over on your own or did you let the smart installer grab it? my only thought is that the dmg somehow got corrupt in between downloading it and copying it over. (if you did indeed copy it over manually)

Exclamation NitoTV File Differences

Nito,

I'm trying to build a tgz file with all the missing files, so I did a clean install and used the install log to try to figure out what files come from the 10.4.9 update image and which ones come from the 1.0 OS.dmg. I noticed the following lines at the end of the log.

Can you tell me what version you are requesting and also if there is an issue in using a different build of that file?

kextload: loaded version 1.4.7 of module com.apple.filesystems.msdosfs differs from requested version com.apple.filesystems.msdosfs
kextload: loaded version 1.0.12 of module com.apple.driver.AppleSMBIOS differs from requested version com.apple.driver.AppleSMBIOS
kextload: loaded version 114.2 of module com.apple.AppleDiskImageController differs from requested version com.apple.AppleDiskImageController
unlink: /Users/frontrow/Movies/Mac OS X 10.4.9 Combined Update (Intel): No such file or directory.
kextload: cannot resolve dependencies for kernel extension /System/Library/Extensions/IOCDStorageFamily.kext
kextload: kext doesn't have all dependencies
kextload: can't generate internal dependency graph for /System/Library/Extensions/IODVDStorageFamily.kext

Regards,

Santa

Regards,

Santa
i am actually not requesting any versions of files, these are all OS output messages that get logged during kextloading, i just take assorted files from 10.4.9 and 1.0 recovery and install them, if there are version mismatch errors im not sure where they'd be coming from, i dont personally remember last i ran it, but i could be mistaken. as far as a list of files from each respective disk image im a little hesitant on this one, i know there are certain patchstick vendors (ones who charge extra for usb patches that are freely available!!) that would love to have this particular piece of information for another way to pull one over on their customers, otherwise i'd have no problem with complete transparency on this issue (another big reason im hesitant to move towards open source for nitoTV) basically the only things that are taken from the recovery.dmg are things that cant be found on the 10.4.9 combo update

check your private messages, hopefully that list will provide you with at least some of the info you need.

Default video support

If I use nitoTV to play an H.264 does the video benefit from Apple's Nvidia hardware driver? It seems to, in the sense that I can apparently play 720p files, but I have no way of knowing why this works. If I sync the same file I get playback from the Finder.

In short, is Quicktime playback via nitoTV the same as from the Finder? If it is then why does the fast rewind issue not affect playback from the Finder?

the playback is the same either way, there is no extra utilization of the GPU, otherwise it would be much better at playing all 720p video. afaik there is no easy way to utilize the GPU to the fullest when playing back video.

The GPU is not capable of full H.264 decoding. This can be verified by examining it's model number and looking at Nvidia's docs. It is able to "help" decode of H.264, but hardware reviewers on many platforms have found that this "help" provides little to no improvement as the overhead of sending the data to the GPU and back tends to eat up any advantage of having the CPU doing the processing in the first place.

If you're looking for full hardware decoding of high profile 720p H.264, or any 1080p H.264, you'll need different hardware. A stock ATV is not up to this task, regardless of what software it is using.
