Default Ext USB HDD as default HD for ATV

Hi guys, love the forum, some very knowledgeable people on here for sure.
I was wondering therefore, if some one would be interested in earning a small amount of money for working out an SSH hack for me.
I have Apple TV 40GB.
I have put the aTV flash on it which has enabled SSH. I have also downloaded the 10.4 file to documents via cyberduck to the Apple TV. This has allowed me to play movie files that I have pre loaded on my external 1.5tb drive via the DVD menu that aTV loaded up in its flash.
Ideally, I would love to watch the movies via the iTunes style, "my movies" function.
This means that when the hard drive is loaded up with .m4v files, the Apple TV can play them as standard as it looks for them there instead of on its own "on board" 40gb HDD.
Also it will allow me to add movies at a later date via sync with iTunes. It must also still allow me to stream my iTunes form my iMac as opposed to uploading it
I figure a bounty of £50 gbp or $100 usd is a suitable reward.
Any takers............

So if I understand correctly, you want to use the external hd to sync your itunes stuff instead of the internal ?
If that is what you want, it already exists and I can try to find it again for you.

PM me if that is what you need.

cheers,
Tom

Thumbs down ATV Patch Member

Just so you guys out there know, I had the aforementioned member, ATV patch do the job on my ATV. After paying him the $100, he became less than helpful, very short when he realised I am not a computer genius and then proceeded to brick my Apple TV and blame me. Just in case anyone else wants to use him.

After about 50 emails back and forth, and a remote session, the USB drive was working flawlessly.
Unfortunately this person bricked her ATV herself. I helped her to restore it and now I am the one to blame...
Oh well, you better stay far away from any computer....The computer that you can use without breaking it still has to be invented.

mac500 u shouldnt have paid or offered money in the first place.
atvpatch, dont you think the right thing would be to return the money? at the end of the day mac500 did not get what she wanted and is worse off than when she started...

on a side note:
ive heard about paid for "atv patchsticks" that are malicious and intentionally brick appletvs. could these be yours atvpatch? and how do u charge people for something that isnt even yours or created by you? your patchstick includes couchsurfer, homemediacloud, nitotv and boxee/xbmc. are any of these yours? have you even asked permission from the creators of these plugins to have them included in your patchstick? there are hardworking people out there that dedicate themselves in making quality plugins for FREE, and here you are taking advantage of people like mac500. karma my friend, it will bite you in the ass.

moral of the story: DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM ATVPATCH.

Hi Doc,

first of all, regarding us "stealing" - we offer a way to INSTALL the plugins in a nice and easy way. We do not sell the plugins on our stick. We wrote our own coding to install and de-install the plugins again. So unlike others, we offer our own product and do not rename plugins to suggest we would have coded them ourselves.
Second, we are NOT related at all with CiscoTM from atvpatch.com who was responsible for spreading malicious software. We are committed to our customers.
Third, Cameron got a WORKING product - I don't know what happened after I logged out.
Instead of her following the steps that I had outlined in detail, I was faced with a PayPal claim. Don't you think it would have been right to at least send me an email and try to regulate it without such a drastic step ?

If you don't want to be compared to ATVPatch.com, why is your name atvpatch??? You charged for a service so you need to provide it, regardless of the technical ability of the customer.

mac500 if you have a MAC use this.

That is a long story. We used atvpatch from the very beginning, then Cisco changed his website from ATV4Windows to atvpatch.com. Unfortunately there is no way to change your forum name here.

As I mentioned, we provided the service and the external hard drive was accessible. If the customer screws up something, ok. We can always redo it, which I was willing to do.
But opening a claim on PayPal without notifying me in advance is really bad.
Anyway, I have refunded the whole sum - it is not worth the hassle... some people will never learn and try to get their services for free.
