Default Livestation with NitoTV

I'm having hard time getting Livestation to run with NitoTV on ATV 3.0.1. I installed all versions of Livestation for Mac (Intel and PPC) with no luck.

I get this error:

You are running a version of the app that is targeted to 10.5+, that will never run on the appletv. if a version that was targeted to 10.4 doesn't exist then you aren't going to get this app on the appletv. (Without installing leopard or snow leopard, and i stand by my opinion of that being one of the worst ideas ever)

http://www.livestation.com/forum/cat...s_on_mac_10411

looks like they are aware of the problem, although if they ever require it to have 10.4.11 (the appletv runs 10.4.7) then it isn't likely to work on the appletv. the PowerPC version will never work because the appletv is intel only, it is not capable of emulating ppc like a normal mac

I should say here that I never used Mac before, but I'm a computer savvy. I'm learning about Apple TV day by day.

I found someone who successfully installed Livestation, but he has ATV OS 2.x not 3.0.1. Check him here:
Hackin’ the AppleTV | William Zhou
Maybe it's also because I did not install a mouse. I don't own an iphone nor ipod touch so is there another solution to use a Bluetooth mouse? I read somewhere that ATV has a built-in Bluetooth hardware but it's not being used.

BTW, I tried all version of Livestation that ever exited for Mac and non worked. I tried version 2.5, 2.7, 3.0, 3.1 for Intel and PPC.

I'm determined to get to the bottom of this and I need help.

As i just stated earlier the ppc versions will NEVER EVER work on the appletv, ever. PowerPC binaries are 100% incapable of running on the AppleTV. The intel ones are on the only ones that have any chance. I dont even see where u can find the other versions of livestation for mac, every link for 2.5 or anything other than 3.1 kept linking to 3.1

I got it from rapidshare and other sites. This is the 2.5 version:

RapidShare: 1-CLICK Web hosting - Easy Filehosting

Actually, Livestation recommends that the PPC version be used on ATV. I do agree with you that it does not give sense.

Please let me know if it works for you.

Thanks

lol they obviously know *nothing* about the appletv. Other intel computers, regular desktops etc are capable of emulating PPC through rosetta, appletv is not the same. Try and run a binary for ppc on there and it will yell and scream, that is just NOT going to happen.

Ill take a shot with 2.5 and see what happens.

EDIT: Tried 2.5 intel, opened fine, played fine no problems. Not sure why it doesnt work for you. Running AppleTV 3.0.1

Hi Nito,
sounds like an interesting add-on for the ATV.
how would one go about installing the app, as the way explained in the link provided by OP (Hackin’ the AppleTV | William Zhou) seems a little vague to me.....

Thanks,
Frans

I also got it working Without a mouse and keyboard!

Livestation confused me with the PPC version. Only the Intel will work.

Here's what I did:

I Installed livestation 2.5 on ATV 3.0.1. When I ran it via NitoTV it loaded and I got the login prompt. Without a keyboard and mouse how can you enter the username/password. Luckily, I have a running Livestation on my Xandros. So I took the Livestation.ini and created this folder (it usually gets created if Livestation logs in successfully):

/Users/frontrow/.config/Livestation and put Livestation.ini in it.

I had to play with the position and size to make it full screen. The limitation of this is that I cannot change channels (only through editing the Livestation.ini).

If you find a way to make the carousel work with the Apple remote that would be great. It will help scroll channels left and right and click OK to choose a channel.

For those interested in installing Livestation. Upload the Livestation-2.5.0-intel.dmg file to your ATV. Enter these commands:

sudo hdiutil mount Livestation-2.5.0-intel.dmg
cp -r /Volumes/Livestation/Livestation.app /Users/frontrow/Applications/

Now, go to NitoTV, Applications and click on Livestation.app.

Good luck!

Nitosoft, your support is impressive! I'm confident that NitoTV will continue to improve.
