now I do have a little tricky problem, but I hope someone
in here can help - a financial reward is also promised!!!

I would need a custom firmware 2.2 for the iPhone 3G, where
a certain image needs to be changed! (that's all )

The GMAIL image needs to be changed into an image that says GOOGLE MAIL !!!

Is there anyone here who can do this?

/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/AccountSettings/MobileMailSettings.bundle

You just need to delete gmail.png and create a duplicate of googlemail.png
Then rename the duplicate to gmail.png

I was able to change most of the entries that say GMAIL to Google Mail now, however to big points still remain:

The title is still "Gmail" and in the E-Mail Part it still says "gmail.com" (see arrows in picture below)



Has anyone gotten any idea where I can find the references to these files?

Just one short question: Is this all just because of Daniel Giersch vs. Google in Germany???
Was hearing that Apple already got contacted by lawyers aswell, whats your business??

To explian: In Germany gmail is a trademark of Daniel Giersch, a kind of clever guy. No-one in good old Germany is allowed to use Gmail for Googles service. Lawyers start to get after those doing, some say they already pi..ed off Apple and some resellers (reimporting factory unlocked 3Gs into Germany)

T answer your question:

/System/Library/PreferenceBundles/AccountSettings/MobileMailSettings.bundle/

Open German.lproj/Preferences.strings in there. Maybe you have to edit all the other local settings aswell, i dont know.
Make sure to use a plain text editor (Text Wrangler on a Mac) to not screw up the binary files.

yes, its about daniel giersch and google
we also have problems about this.

now i changed the string, but nothing happend.

i changed the german pref.strings.
maybe we must change the pref.strings from the country the phone is. for example: CZ we must change the CZ strings. IT we mus change the IT strings.

yep, it's about that giersch story. however, i have not been contacted by his thugs yet

still trying to figure out how to get rid of the entry where it has the title "gmail" and "gmail.com", everything else has already been changed..

how about disabling the whole gmail-entry? any ideas anyone??

Did you already find a solution for that?
After my 3GS arrived I think about selling my old iPhone 3G. And for that it is necessary to sell it with the googlemail logo instead the gmail logo.
