Default Logic Studio 8 DAW

Hey all,

I am really leaning towards buying the parts to the gigabyte i7 core machine listed in the hardware sticky for noobs because a mac pro is just way to expensive now a days. Yet I am stuck on Mac because I can't break away from Logic.

This will not be for games etc. I have a retail full version Leopard 10.5.1 DVD and also a full retail version of Logic Studio 8. I will also be running Vienna Instruments, Kontakt, Sibelius and other music applications.

Anything I need to be concerned with or this setup going to work like a rock? I will be going with the exact parts that were listed as working under (the new one) in the hardware sticky i7 core gigabyte setup. My Sound card will be RME Hammerfall DSP Multiface 2 with the PCI interface card. Seems my sound card is the only item not on that noob list but I did see it in the HCL.

Thanks

Well I guess that sucks. No one is using Hackintosh to run LOGIC. What a waste, seems to me things like LOGIC would be a main reason to run a Hackintosh.

Guess I am wrong.

Hey man,

I used to run Logic 8 in my old hackintosh, based on AMD..(4 years old pc)!
Now i am planning to buy intel core i7, in order to build a new hackintosh.

I will refer to my old system,.... According to the soundcard I used to have, Focusrite Saffire Le, and was working perfectly, (probaply i am gonna use the same soundcard in my new system) I had plenty of AU plugins.. such as minimonsta, z3ta+, nexus, absynth, pro-53, arturia moog bundle, (from high-tech AU plugins to simple one) etc... and also was working perfectly.., i did not try Vienna Instruments yet, since i have just bought it..

Als there was no need for me to setup my midi keyboard drivers,

The main and the only reason that i am using hackintosh is to run Logic, since i used to produce music on a pc, Cubase, now i am very happy to see my pc running logic.. Logic is by far the best DAW..

Thanks for the response mate. I am definitely doing this this summer to replace my macbookpro which can only take 2GB of ram. I am so fed up with having to freeze everything just to playback my projects. I don't mind freezing tracks, but when you are forced to freeze everything just to be able to play it back, the machines to old and unpowered.

I can't wait to hear how you do with an i7 machine. Please let me know your results and struggles when you get it finished please!

If I get mine first I will post back here as well. And I agree Logic is the best DAW there is. I have used Cubase, Sonar, Samplitude and a few others. Nothing compares to Logic to me. Now if they would only take expression mapping and put it into Logic (and mapping score articulations to key switches!).

Thanks!

hey all!
I run logic studio on my 3Ghz 8core intel mac.In the last 3 weeks I'm trying to build my "safety hachintosh machine" based on an AMD system.
I would also like to use this machine LIVE with Main stage.. instead of V-STack on PC!

Here is my experience:

MB: Asus M3N78-EM
Video card : Nvidia GF8400 GS 256MB (the M3N78 on board din't work )
OS: iDeneb 10.5.6
CPU: Phenom II 4X3Ghx
RAM: 4GB Corsair 1066Mhz
SATA drive ( better and faster )

The system "seems" to be ok...exept:

-iCal and Dvd player not working ( who cares? I wanna use LOGIC! )
-When I try to open some downloaded packages or images the system crashes ( but again, who cares...)
- If I upgrade to iDeneb 10.5.7 I LOSE the ethernet connection ( which is the only one working )so I downgraded to 10.5.6
- MY MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT USB AND FIREWIRE pors WORK BUT THEY ARE WERY WEAK.
THIS MEANS THAT IT'S QUITE IMPOSSIBLE TO INSTALL A PERFORMING AUDIO CARD!!!!
Let's talk about AUDIO CARDS..
PCI :
I have an old M-Audio Delta 2496 which is officially unsupported by INTEL MACS, I've read a lot of posts about people having problems with MAYA 44 ( on hachintosh machines ), in addition there are very few cheap PCI cards to choose...
FIREWIRE:
I've installed my M-audio 1814 firewire, but the firewire signal is very weak and I can barely hear an mp3!!
Is there any FIREWIRE AND/OR USB FIX OR PCI OR PCIe FIX in order to install a decent AUDIO card ?
I installed logic studio and all my favourite software instruments but when I try to record one audio trak or to play a decent piano sampler the System performace tool ( 4 CPU processor recognized ) goes crazy! It just can't handle it!

Any good experience or suggestions out there ?

ricky
