I can confirm they do indeed work. Also just tested my 3G on T-mobile, all seems well!

How I solved the no youtube problem
1. I restored to stock FW 3.1.2, with my ATT sim in the phone and allowed ATT to do the activation. (last time I did it with no sim installed and let blackra1n do the hacktivation (its automatic).

2. I installed blackra1n, cydia, and blacksn0w

yes I am on ATTUsa
though geo has posted that his kit enables tethering, I do not see it in settings/general/network. The 3g iPhone Im testing with is currently not showing the tethering toggle

so I tried to add the source http://www.iPhone-Notes.de so I could add the Tweaks package. Cydia would not add the source as typed so I searched for iPhone in cydia, and it found the source and I added it..

I was then able to use cydia to install the musclenerd commcenter patch by using the Tethering 3G - 3.1.2 app

the tethering toggle was not in settings/general/network yet, so
then i restarted the iphone, still no settings/general/network toggle for tethering, so I installed volkspost ipcc

now the on/off toggle appears in settings/general/network

I tested tethering the 3G to an Intel Mac, and Tethering Works!

fwiw, I had a lot of problems in the past getting tethering to work this way when I had PDANet installed. I later learned when looking into MyWi, that PDANet assigns a dhcp host that interferes with mywi and traditional tethering

my current favorite way to tether is using MyWi
the version I use is from
apt.apfelphone.net rumor has it that they host an old version of MyWi that was cracked to remove the trial limitation.

In any case, I find wifi tethering much simpler, but MyWi will do either apple style or PDANet style tethering.. (and if you go the MyWi or PDASNet route, you dont need the commcenter hack, nor the custom ipsw as far as I understand so far..

Hey Guys I have already JB my 3GS with the RC1 and runs great.. I don't need to unlock but if I need to goto 3.1.2 from iTunes 1 will this update my Baseband to 5.11.07 tooo 5.11.08 is this true... I don't want to update the BAseband How can I do this.. and why I ask is because I don't want to be tethered later on...

Am I gettting this right getting confuse all about this...Please any help would be appreciated..

Note my 3GS was OOTB 3.1---- 5.11.07

Just restored my phone to 3.1.2 on itunes then used blackrain to jailbreak, and unlock using Windows XP PRO SP3 and with the latest iTunes 9.0.2.25. WORKS GREAT.

I am on T-mobile USA. Thank you geohot.

Update: I was unsuccessful to connect to Youtube.

The new Blackra1n patches comcenter; no need to do it again with the cydia package. You still need to install an ipcc or mobileconfig file, however.

Go ahead and update, then run blackra1n to jailbreak. If you had an untethered jailbreak before, you'll have an untethered jailbreak now.

The tethered jailbreak is only for the *new* 3GS units and iPod Touch units. They have different *hardware*.

try resetting your network settings

yes, stock apple fw3.1.2 thru itunes, yes to the updated carrier settings if it asks, yes you are safe at iTunes 9.x, then blackra1n

UPDATE # 2: After unsuccessfully trying to get Youtube to work, I had my old AT&T sim card laying around. I inserted the AT&T Sim Card, I restored firmware 3.1.2 on itunes again. It automatically Activated for me with the AT&T Sim Card and Youtube now works.

I took out the AT&T SIM Card and inserted my T-mobile Sim Card.

I then used black1rain to unlock and install cydia.

Everything works excellent now.


Next step: Enable tethering.
