OK, so it is still a tethered jailbreak for my phone. Is my phone unlocakable using this method? Or does the new i-boot affect that also?

unlock is separate but depends on a jailbreak to inject the unlock.

Summary, you can unlock with blacksn0w, but you need to run blackra1n each boot to get the iPhone booting

I like to know if there is any way around tethered jailbreak. I just bought iphone 3gs otb 3.1.2 with serial #4-5 digit as 42. I read that blackra1n does the jailbreak but it is a tethered jailbreak. ANy ideas will be appriciated.

There is no way around tethered jailbreak right now. A solution might come in the future, or it might never come. Hackers are looking into this but is is very hard to find another hole.

Can I jailbreak my 3.1.2 otb with pwnage tool 3.1.4 and then unlock with blacksn0w? Is this possible?

3.1.2 OTB cannot use pwnagetool 3.1.4
What you can do is:

- 3.1.2 OTB jailreak with blackra1n rc2
- restore with custom fw 3.1.2 created by pwnagetool 3.1.4
- Use cydia and add source blacra1n.com
- install blacksn0w via cydia.

the week 40 is approximate IHMO.
tethered JB is required for all iphones with new bootrom

Where can I download blackra1n rc2? On the website it gives me rc3.
