i have a 2G iphone running 2.2, which was JB/unlocked with windows QuickPwn22.

anyone know when the Pwn tool for windows will be out for 3.1.2fw?

also, i was going to update to 3.0 using this guide;

iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your iPhone 2G on OS 3.0.x Using RedSn0w (Windows)

but it says i need iTunes8.2. Where can I find this please?

You don't need iTunes 8.2 you can use iTunes 9.0.2 or anything in between

Redsn0w updated for OS later than 3.0.1 may come out one day and redsn0w is definitely not dead, just hibernating while the main developer is on sabbatical.

Geohot's Blackra1n can jailbreak OS 3.1.2 and works in a similar way to redsn0w but the latest version was only released yesterday and it has some issues with hacktivation still.

In my opinion your best approach is to get a pre-made custom ipsw made using pwnage tool for mac. Because your iPhone is already jailbroken on 2.x you can simply shift-restore via iTunes with this ipsw and you will end up with a jail-broken/hacktivated 3.1.2

it's been a while since I was here poking around - do you know where I can find some places with info that explain how I can save my apps I've had from the AppStore and also apps from cydia etc so I don't loose them when I do this upgrade/JB/Unlock?

Appstore apps should sync to iTunes when you sync your iPhone.

There are a few apps in cydia that can backup apps and settings.

If you restore direct to 3.x, you lose your saved SMS and call history. These need to be upgraded to the 3.0 db format.

Moving from 2.x to 3.x is a major update and for best performance and reliability I recommend you transfer over only the most essential data.

Likewise, if you back up some of your "old" (prior to 3.0)Cydia apps they may not be compatiable with 3.1.2.
