Question Q: get/convert old sms.db on fw 3.0??

Hi guys..
yesterday, I upgraded my iphone from 1.1.2 to 3.0..the sms app has issues now (as many of you already know) coz the older format of sms.db is not compatible with the new format in fw 3..Does anyone have a solution on how to migrate the old format sms.db to the new format so i dont have 2 throw away all my old messages..

Thanks.

Try going back to 1.1.4, restoring your old sms.db and then upgrading (not restoring) to 2.0 and upgrading to 3.0 then your db will be updated properly.

Upgrading = your settings and files are not wiped, just the OS is upgraded
Restore = your settings and files are wiped and the new OS is installed from scratch
Restore from iTunes backup - restoring your settings and files from a backup stored on your computer by iTunes, does not upgrade or reinstall your OS. Usually done after a restore of the OS.

In terms of jailbreaking, as long as you use redsn0w or blackra1n and you were not jailbroken before you upgraded, there is pretty much no difference.

If you use pwnagetool custom ipsw you cannot upgrade, only restore. This functionality is not supported.

You should avoid restoring from iTunes backup where the backup was taken when the iPhone was jailbroken.

ok..i managed to get the iphone down to 1.1.4 with all my messages and settings etc..i looked for tutorials to upgrade to 2.0 but all i found are ways to RESTORE a custom 2.0 fw using winpwn..so how can i upgrade to fw 2.0 and subsequently to 3.0?? Do i update to fw 2.0 by simply shift+update in itunes, use a tool like redsnow, and finally do same same thing to update to 3.0..or it's more complicated than that??

Thank u again

It's not more complicated than that.. Shift-update in iTunes does the trick.
Use quickpwn for 2.0 and redsn0w for 3.0

job done!

it was quite a journey hehe..
couldnt update to 2.0 (error 14) so i restored.
then for some reason quickpwn couldnt recognize the fw 2.0 i downloaded..so i had to get back to 1.1.4..
now restore and to 2.2.1 and quickpwn (i didnt want to try update so i dont have to get back to 1.1.4 again if it fails!) then restored from a backup (luckily it restored the sms database and migrated it to the new format automatically )
then update to 3.0 and redsn0w..baaam everything is working like a charm

Thanks for your help.
