Default AD2P Enabler

I found this interesting piece of software on google
Dmytro personal pages: A2DP Enabler for iPhone 2G (original iPhone)
It's an AD2P enabler for the iPhone 2G, and it works! I was wondering if anyone else here has tried it and knows more about how it works? I've tried searching and couldn't find a thread about this program anywhere.

Works great, but problems with wifi streaming app, as Wunderradio, TVUplayer, ect.., wifi buffer will crash, and believe this Apple's fault, because 3G also has this issue by defaut. iPod works great, using Plantronic 855. Some app does not work well after A2DP enabler hack, such as GoodReader.

It modifies /System/Library/AppleUSBDevice/USBDeviceConfiguration.plist,
toggling devices->iPhone1,1->productID between 4752 (iPhone 2G) and 4754 (iPhone 3G); those are the USB device IDs.

The value is parsed by IOKit in IOUSBDeviceDescriptionCreateFromDefaults() and exposed via IOUSBDeviceDescriptionGetProductID() function, which is used by BTServer.

If that is the only change, how can the app expire after Dec 1st?

So, basically it tricks the BT server into thinking it's running on the 3G platform? That's funny. That just shows that Apple's own software is compatible with the older iPhones bluetooth chip and it's certainly not a hardware issue.

This doesn't surprise me. Apple just decided to not to spend money on the quality assurance (ie testing) of this on the 2G model. The BT chips are different, so there are hardware issues. However it seems they are either not too different or Apple's engineers got AD2P working but not tested on the 2G before marketing told them to scrap that feature. At least it partly works.

I've read about a few issues, namely with range and inability to use audio with a streamed wifi source (though I hear the 3G also has a similar issue). For me though, stereo bluetooth with iPod and with phone services is all I need and it works perfectly fine.

@kdhoe
Don't know about expiration. Might as well be a red herring (just prevents you to clicka-clicka), albeit you should be able to connect through the regular interface (and not necessarily through A2DPEnabler interface).

@Parastie
Exactly, it tricks the BT server, not the radio hardware. I doubt the hardware is 100% compatible. Just look in etc/bluetool/iPhone1,1.init.script vs iPhone1,2.init.script.
