Hi there super community.
I built my little tiny iphone app using the sdk. I want to upload the app manually via sftp and run it.

I have been able to deploy the app
set the permissions (from the root all the way down to the sub folders) 777
restarted the springboard

the app runs just fine what DOESN'T work are the settings. They don't show up in the settings panel. How do I fix that?
Note that if I deploy on a fully fledged locked iphone everything works just fine.

There is a package from cydia that builds upon MobileSubstrate it is called PreferenceLoader and should help with your problem.

thanks for sharing - I tried that one but I don't see the settings for my app - I don't also see an a loaderpref. icon on the springboard not sure if that is expected.

MobileSubstrate plugins modify the existing Apple processes (like springboard and settings) to add extra functionality. You will not see extra icons from these plugins normally. There are some that do add an icon like backgrounder, which does this to offer configuration options.

I am not a developer myself and unsure if you need to modify your app in some way to make this happen. I know this is how Red Laser (a barcode scanning app) loaded their settings bundle when they offered a more feature rich beta while waiting for Apple to approve the new feature rich version in the app store.
