update 2.2.1 to 3.1 custom FW

On a 2G, is there a way to update from 2.2.1 to 3.1 CFW without updating to 3.0 first? I dont want to update my modem FW coz i read a lot of WIFI dying from 3.0 & 3.1. Thanks
