Default 2g Upgrade help

Hi. Apologies if this has been done again and again but ive looked through the threads and am still a bit confused.

I currently have an unlocked/jailbroken 2g on 2.1 and feel its time to upgrade. I looked before to upgrading to 3.0 but read of problems with wifi not working with some people so decided just to leave it.

Now that 3.1 is out I was wondering if it is now worth upgrading to, and if its without problem? And also if the phone will still be jailbroken or if I need to do it again. Its been over a year since I last upgraded so I would need pretty detailed instructions on how to do it all again. As am pretty scared of messing it all up.

Thanks in advance guys

thanks. Could I therefore just follow this tutorial:

http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4255

Problem is my iphone is set up on windows. But I also have a mac. Could I just plug it into my Mac and do it there or is tht not possible seen as ive previously done it on windows?

And also ive read things like its not safe to go straight from 2.1 to 3.1 and you should go to like 3.0 or 3.0.1 first. Any truth in that? Also will I lose all my contacts and such be upgrading?
