I've got an original iPhone that was jailbroken and unlocked using my mac but I gave it to my daughter who only has access to a windows laptop. Am wondering what can I do to get it so that she can restore it on her laptop when she needs to rather than having to ship it to me to do it on the mac. Thanks

As long as the songs/apps etc are sync on the PC she should be able to restore & recover her settings without any big trouble.

Does she know how to jailbreak an iphone after restoring?

She was able to sync it then something caused it to lock up and now it won't boot. I tried talking her through putting it into dfu mode but she says it doesn't and that itunes never comes up and says the phone needs to be restored so i'm pretty sure she's not doing something correctly but since she's about 1200 miles away I don't know what it is. I'm going to have her send it to me but this is the 2nd time in a month and last time when i got it i was able to get right into dfu and restore it no problem so I was thinking maybe since I had previously hacked it on a mac it had to be restored on a mac unless I did something to get it to restore on windows box.

Getting into DFU can be tricky but there is no reason the PC shouldn't be able to do the job your mac's been doing

I don't know what firmware your running but if possible restore with 3.0/3.0.1

That way you can use redsn0w to JB & avoid the need to explain custom IPSW with pwnagetool

OK thanks for the info. I had already upgraded it to 3.1 so I have the IPSW file to restore with. Can she use that with windows if I send it to her?

Yes but if you DFU restore first you may start getting the 1600 errors from itunes when you use your custom ipsw.


Best way to go is DFU restore with a 3.0.1, then jailbreak with redsn0w 08

Ones thats done just connect the phone back to itunes & shift restore with the 3.1 custom.

Doing it this way should avoid them pain in the a**e 1600 errors
