newbi here

bought iphone 2g 8gb with faulty comm board, so i replaced the comm board. Iphone was fully working then and was on v1.1.4 which i was told does not support apps so i upgraded to v2.2, i upgraded by clicking restore + shift and i selected v2.2 im not even sure if i upgraded right but anyway now i am on the emergency screen with the itunes logo and usb as a background and can only make emergency calls. My guess is it needs activation but when i connect it to itunes it says your iphone could not be recognised take it in store is there anyway i can sort this by my self iv googled everything i could think of but i have not found anyone with this problem so could some please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for your help but im on a pc not mac, anyway iv tried to jailbreak it but when its about to jailbreak it just goes to the usb with itunes which i think is restore mode and it gets stuck there then i have to restore just to get out the usb itunes loop and it won't jailbreak the porgrams i use like ziphone and quickpwn just say searching for iphone and just stop there as by that time the iphone will have gone to the usb itunes logo
its no fun without an iphone

I think you have to get a custom image of 3.1 - ( google it ), and use iTunes 9 on the PC side to restore it.
I used my Hackint0sh and pwnage to create a custom 3.1 image. Restore using a PC iTunes 9. But, you should be able to find Custom image on popular sites.

Thanks for the suggestions il think about updating to itunes 9 because i rather have 8 because someone said something about not being able t use JB APPS because thy can detect them or something like that, wait is that even true???????
