Default Push not working on legit at&t iphone

OK if you can help me out I'll donate some genuine certs to you.

Here is my problem. I have an iPhone 2G running 3.1.2. It was jailbroken/unlocked using pwnagetool, but it was not hacktivated. I have a legit AT&T sim and pay for the iphone plan. But, my push notifications do not work. When trying to use Whatapp, I get an error stating, "Sorry, there was a problem registering your handset with Push Notification Service." I have tried deleting all fileds in /lockdown and getting new certs, but push simply will not work. Any ideas on how to solve this?

Odd questions for you: was Push working before you jailbroke? And: are you sure Push is active in the Settings menu?

Yes, push is turned on. However, I'm not sure if it ever worked before. It's my wife's phone and she never had a need for any programs using push until now.

After you get new certs you need to remove all push apps & reinstall them.
Certs are always welcome ;-) Still didn't get any

I'm in the same boat as most of the people in this thread- my iPhone 2G won't do push notifications.
I am on T-Mobile.

However, I made a discovery yesterday.
After restoring to a new iPhone (3.0), I unlocked/jailbroke it with redsn0w (Windows).
I had my T-Mobile SIM card in a different phone and was tinkering with that one, when I suddenly heard a short vibrate and a 'new email' notification sound. From my iPhone.

I tested emailing and noticed that I got push notifications consistently.
I got push notifications working on my hacktivated 3.0 only without my T-Mobile SIM card inserted.
Once I inserted this SIM card in my phone, I stopped receiving them.

Now, reading around, I have found out that you must first activate the phone with a legit AT&T card to get push working, back up the certificate, and then unlock & restore the certificate.

Taking into account the fact that I got my push notifications working only before I inserted my T-Mobile card, would it be recommended to do the following?:
-Restore to a new iPhone; jailbreak/unlock
-Back up the keychain certificates
-Put T-Mobile card in
-Install T-Mobile carrier information (for Edge)
-Restore keychain certificates

It seems like that would work, however I would like to ask this thread to see what anyone else thinks on the matter.

Quick edit: After posting I realized that page 19 was not the end of the thread, it was the beginning. So unfortunately I was under the impression that there was still no way to fix push notifications.
I am now wondering where I would go to for someone to generate new certificates for me... am I okay to ask this?
And another question: I have two non-working SIM cards: an AT&T and a Cingular. Would either of these work to activate/create new certificates for me?

Last one. Will these certificates work on 3.1.2 if you jailbreak to it? And am I correct in guessing that you do -NOT- select unlock when you do this jailbreak procedure?

Just tried to activate with the deactivated SIM cards... they would work for doing this, however, I need the zip code and last 4 digits of the account holder's SS number to proceed

I guess I am back to the first step - would anyone be generous enough to PM me some certs?

Just borrow an iPod Touch from somebody. I got my certs that way. Work perfectly!

Some people may be missing one important step for generating and storing the certs:

To generate a cert, one must:

1) Start with a clean iPhone, after a RESTORE with a Pwned (Custom) IPSW *WITHOUT HACKTIVATION*

2) iTunes activate for Apple to sign the new set of certificates

3) Install (Cydia) SSH or terminal

4) Install a valid PUSH App and RUN THE APP (this will activate the certificates)

5) Install "nimble" (from the Dev Team Fix package), using SFTP or iFunBox, on the /Library/Keychains directory

6) Open a root shell on the iPhone (SSH or "terminal" + "su -") and "cd /Library/Keychains"

7) Make "nimble" executable: chmod +x nimble

8) Then "nimble" (extract) the certificates

9) Copy the 4 .bin files to a safe directory on your Mac/PC using SFTP or iFunBox

10) Zip the directory, send to the lucky receiver AND ERASE IT SO THAT ONLY ONE PERSON WILL HAVE THIS SET OF CERTIFICATES

11) Remove all files and folders in "/private/var/root/Library/Lockdown"

12) Turn "Push notifications" OFF and remove the PUSH APP you installed

13) Reboot the iPhone

14) iTunes activate for Apple to sign the new set of certificates

15) GO TO STEP (4)

Now to install the certificates:

1) Start with a jailbroken and hacktivated iPhone AND REMOVE ALL PUSH NOTIFICATION APPS AND TURN NOTIFICATION OFF

2) Install (Cydia) SSH or terminal

3) Copy (SFTP or iFunBox) the 4 bin files and "inject" (from the Dev Team fix) to /Library/Keychains"

4) Open a root shell on the iPhone (SSH or "terminal" + "su -") and "cd /Library/Keychains"

5) Make "inject" executable "chmod +x inject"

6) Run "inject"

7) remove "inject" and the bin files from your iPhone

8) Reinstall the required PUSH APP and test

9) On your PC, save the bin files for future use, but ONLY ON THIS IPHONE. DO NOT SHARE THIS FILES OR EVEN INSTALL ON ANOTHER IPHONE.

** THE SET OF CERTIFICATES ARE UNIQUE TO AN IPHONE **

The certs contains an UUID (unique ID) that is used to distinguish the phones for PUSH notifications. If 2 iPhones have the same certs, push notifications will not be able to distinguish them and the last one to register with the push server will be the one active.

Hi Aviegas,
thanks a million for this excellent tutorial!

Do you think we should put this tutorial only sticky in iPhone/General?

I see the question poppoing up in many threads.
