The current activation files are in /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown I think. If you remove these & reboot iTunes should ask for a new activation.

Then you can extract the certificates with the "pushfix beta" app.

I can't test this myself. I don't have a official activated iPhone or iPod Touch.

He's likely stockpiled thousands of certificates already anyway.
With some unix scripting/programming knowledge you can make a script

It's just removing some files
reboot the ipod or iphone
let iTunes reactivate
run "nimble" to extract the files
copy them to your local pc or mac

OK, here is what he does, just tested it on my factory unlocked iPhone 3GS

1. SSH into the iPhone, cp and chmod 0755 nimble to
/private/var/keycahins
2. run ./nimble and grab the four files, copy them to your PC
3. remove all files and folders in /private/var/root/Library/Lockdown
4. Reboot the iPhone
5. Start iTunes - it will activate your iPhone
6. Restart with step 1

If you setup SFTP, fixed IP and USB connection with your Mac/PC even doing it manually takes about two minutes.

Will generate a new set of certs every time you run the job.

Guys, if you go for this way just make sure to distribute one fresh package of certs to just one person. If many ppl start using the same set, the story starts from scratch: not working

Indeed. After you extract the certs and send them to someone, it's best to remove them from your computer.

Also don't forget to reactivate your own phone, so you get new certs for yourself.

Once you received a set of certs you can always reuse them when you restore your hacktivated iPhone. After you restore your phone just inject them again. So keep the certs save on your computer.

Nice! I've been discussing this issue in private with volkspost for a while and I've been using a factory unlocked phone to generate certs for several iPhones (family and friends), but I was resorting to reinstalling to get the fresh certificates. If indeed this works, great!

As noted, this will work, as long as 2 rules are obeyed:

- The person that generates the certificates must only distribute it to a SINGLE PERSON. So send AND ERASE THEM.

- The receiver of a certificate uses it ON A SINGLE IPHONE. The certificate must also be saved for future use on the SAME IPHONE

So, PLEASE no more packages with certificates on "that site" or "that other site" too. This is what caused people to start saying the the dev team fix was not working.

Now it will take a while for the tutorials around to be cleansed from the pre-packed certs.

One note aside: aviegas did all the basic research on technical background, he was just nice sharing this with me.
