It seems to have worked! I used Pwnage 3.1.4 and made a custom ipsw and used it to restore. Then I installed certs and tried a push app, it worked. Then I did a restore of data/apps and it still works!

Thanks for all the help!

Since I live in Norway I guess there will be no solution then...?

I have a 1. gen from the US, that I bought in 2007, and I still have the sim-card from AT&T in a drawer (which I obviously can´t activate in Norway).
The phone has always been unlocked and jailbroken with various known methods, and now lives on fw 3.1. But of course, Push Notifications is not happy. I gave it to my girlfriend, and was hpoing we could use the push-app Ping!, but no; it´s not working very well.
I have a legit unlocked 3GS, and I received Ping!-messages, but she doesn´t get ´em back (well, she gets a few, but then the "connection" dies, and she just get random messages from people all over the world for no reason).

I have some knowledge of using SSH, but I guess to no use since I can´t get original certs from the phone in the first place... Is that the right conclusion, or is there something else I should try?
Of course, I´ve used the Push Fix, but it was not a good solution...

Is there something I could try when I next update the phone to fw 3.1.2 using Pwnage?

I would suggest looking around for a friend with an Ipod touch on 3.x that will let you "borrow" the certs from them. If you do this, I would suggest doing a restore to 3.x reJB and reUnlock. Then apply the certs from a friend. Otherwise you may end up running around in circles trying to get it to work correctly.

Oy, I'm only just now seeing this as I didn't get e-mail updates on your posts, lol! Anyway, I'm glad it finally worked!!! Enjoy your push notifications =)

What Jedavis1 said is probably your best bet.

The only other option I could think of is for you to lend her your certificate, but use different programs for messaging. Another user in this discussion did this with his son and was able to avoid getting messages from his son's messenger push notifications by having them both use different IM programs on the iPhone, instead of the same. The problem with doing it this way is that using Ping would be out of the question as you would both get all of each other's messages, and there are no, to my knowledge, other Ping alternatives. You wouldn't have that big a problem with other messengers that use AIM/ICQ/MSN/YIM/Talk/etc though.

However, Jedavis1's suggestion would be better. If you have an iPod Touch laying around, one you aren't using much at all, this would be your best bet for getting Push notifications without overlapping messages.

@CorranQ & jedavis1: Thanx guys!
I had this small hope there were something else I could do, and I have no iPod touch at hand. Maybe I should try to buy a used one which is really worn and cheap? ;-)
In that case, I sure will use what you guys have provided in this thread

But I guess I would a guide for dummies

It's certainly not the worst idea, hehe, I have a first generation 32 GB iPod Touch and it's sitting in my drawer most of the time excepting for when I go on trips and whatnot where I would rather load movies and tv shows onto it that won't drain my iPhone's battery. However, depending on where your girlfriend is on being able to update/upgrade her mobile contract, it might just be easier, better, cheaper, and quicker to get an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS that's already unlocked to her network or factory unlocked.

Hi again!

Since I obviously want to fix this problem because I really want to Ping! my girlfriend (pun intended), I got this "commercial" on Facebook. It seems this could be the answer, but I´m not sure I can trust this payware ($6).

I´ve read a little on the forum on that page, and it somehow seem legit...
What do you think? Head over and have a looksy:

I'm generally pretty reluctant to try these kinds of things :-S But then again 6 bucks isn't too much to pay for trying. Up to you, though in all honesty I wouldn't go for it.

Yeah, I have to decide if I want to pay up...
If I try sometime this week, I´ll make some noise here on results.

If anyone else does it, please post here
