what's strange is that with stock iPhone firmware and legit O2-UK SIM, Push still doesn't work over Wi-fi. the SIM isn't registered (got it free via O2 promotion) so no GPRS/EDGE connection, i could hear the phone trying to connect by placing it next to a speaker.
conclusion is that Push notification on iPhone is broken. Apple had made sure Push only works over mobile data network, but it drains battery and not everyone have unlimited data plan (at least jailbreakers) Apple should have built a fall-back to wifi function.

It is definitely buggy but I think push on iPhones basically struggles between the edge/GPRS/3G/wifi IPs, and even if data isn't fully enabled, you still have an IP, so ultimately the iPhone has something like an identity crisis over Internet addresses to which it sends push notifications... This is all conjecture, but my iPhones recent Push behavior seems to go with it :-S

Isn't there anyone who has word from the devteam?
The fix we have rightnow is a beta fix, but it doens't look like their working on a working one? We can try testing and doing things but eventually its not going to work without a better and proper hack. Jonas |

For those wondering, the exact same process works with 3.1 as it did with 3.0 and 3.01 - a few notes though: for some reason in my case push only really fully works while on Edge. You may not notice whether or not it's working for you unless you're using data over Edge/3G.
Also, there is no need to uninstall your Push applications. Simply do NOT open them upon updating to 3.1 using PwnageTool before you've replaced your Push certificates as described in the tool developed by DevTeam. After this you can reopen your Push enabled apps and enjoy them as they were.
