i have my 3gs on ATT network so i dont need to or want to unlock it, but i do have it jailbroken. my problem is that i wanted to upgrade to the 3.1 firmware. will that stop me from ever jailbreaking. i have only seen the term unlocking used in news articles and forums with no mention of of stopping you from jailbreaking. i was not sure wether the baseband had anythign to do with jailbreaking or just with unlocking. it may be answered a million times before. but i did not see any recent posts on the subject. thanks

The 3.1 fw is not jail breakable yet on the 3GS or any other device,

If you have a 3GS & you don't have your ECID SHSH information you should follow one of the guides listed in the link below & then wait for more info from the Dev Team before updating.

i understand itsnt jailbroken yet, my cydia says there is a ecid shsh on file for my iphone but i dont know how to retrieve that information to have on my computer. i'm OCD about new tech and upgrades, i beta test for several softwares every month. so i'm just anxious to get items liek the genius mixes and several of the other small updates available on my iphone. i'm just confused at what that file is supposed to do yet.
