this is my first post after scanning through all threads I could find on the topic and I know this has probably been asked many times before but I really need some help. Any help will be much appreciated.

I just got my iphone 3g 8gb running on 3.0 firmware and am trying to jailbreak it with redsn0w. Ive tried 7.1 and 7.2 but cant get my ipod into DFU mode after trying at least 20 times (following the instructions exactly) and also various softward variants. Im thinking because im such a noob at this I might have a simple problem so I have a few questions.

Does it matter if the iphone is already running 3.0 firmware or do i need to downgrade to the original settings then redsn0w upgrades it for me?

sorry i took a long time for a pretty simple question but im trying to be thorough. once again any help would be awesome.

Update to redsn0w 0.8. It appears to solve many problems and worked with a 3GS I unlocked recently.

Try to jailbreak with the new redsn0w. It has different instructions in getting to DFU mode so follow those correctly.

3.0 Firmware is fine. Make sure you have the proper ipsw downloaded for redsn0w.

hey thanks for your help I tried with 0.8 and it still didnt work, it ended up being my computer that was off so I did it on a new computer and it worked perfectly thanks for your help though
