Default non-redsnow based unlocking/jailbreaking possible?

For some reason my iPhone 2G won't go into DFU mode. Everytime I "turnoff" my iphone, it keep turning back on. It won't stay off. So for this reason it won't go into DFU mode.

My iPhone is not activated so I want to unlock/jailbreak it so I can use it as for wifi/ipod.

Since redsnow forces u to go into DFU, is there any other unlocking/jailbreak solution?

What OS are you running on the iPhone at the moment?

You have a few options.
  1. try this method to get into DFU, this one relies on the iPhone restarting rather than shutting down. iClarified - iPhone - How to Put an iPhone Into DFU Mode I am confident that this will work for you.
  2. Use blackra1n to jailbreak, it only requires the iPhone to be in recovery mode and it generally automatically enters this mode for you. If that does not work you can use iLiberty to enter recovery mode and then run blackra1n.
    Once jailbroken with blackra1n you can then restore normally via option (or shift on windows) click on the restore button in iTunes with a pwnagetool created ipsw that includes hacktivation and unlock.
  3. Read the following thread, http://www.hackint0sh.org/f206/80193.htm it explains how to send a specially modified ipsw that will put your iPhone into DFU mode and then you can restore with a pwnagetool created ipsw that includes hacktivation and unlock

@Olethros

Thanks for the reply. But I can't get the iPhone to get DFU mode at all. I even tried the method you mentioned in your reply. Not only that, when I hold on to the power button, my iPhone won't even show me the "slide to power off" screen. It won't don't anything.

But like I mentioned, I am able to get into a the recovery mode (not the same as DFU) using a little trick I came up with. So I am able to update firware using iTunes "Shit + Restore" method.

It would be great if someone can custom build me an ipsw file using Pawnage Tool, since I don't have a Mac. Hopefully that custom build ipsw file will hactivate, unlock, and jailbreak my iPhone????
