Hi all. I have an iPhone 2G that I basically use as an iPod Touch. I bought it off a guy who never hacked it or did anything to it. It still has his original SIM in it, even though he upgraded to a 3G. I don't know why he didn't take out his SIM, but nevertheless, iTunes still thinks it's legit, and lets me update. However, I do not receive cellular service.
I updated to 3.0 through iTunes, and eagerly awaited redsn0w to be able to JB. Unfortunately, I have tried many times, and redsn0w.exe crashes on me, no matter what I do. I've tried it in Windows 7, Vista, and XP, and pretty much every compatibility arrangement possible. It isn't the OS. I found a blog post (and several other places since) that claim that there are two different 3.0 ipsw's for the 2G, one with activation enabled, and the other with activation disabled, and that because I was using an ATT sim, I needed an ipsw that has activation disabled. So far I have been unable to find any such ipsw, nor is it mentioned anywhere else in conjunction with redsn0w, so it might be a wild goose chase. I figured you guys would have some idea. I am positive that I am not doing anything wrong according to the guidelines laid down by redsn0w. I have all the necessary files, and I am perfectly capable of getting into DFU mode. Redsn0w crashes as soon as it attempts to actually jailbreak the phone, right after instruction screen for entering DFU mode. I've had to restore my iPhone 3 times now with iTunes, and it's getting quite wearisome. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
