Hello,

I have an iPhone 3G with 32MB, OS 3.0.1, BB 4.26.08, which is jailbreaked and unlocked.

Now I would like to update to OS 3.1.2. What is the best way to do this, keeping it jailbreaked and unlocked?

You did not mention what OS you are running on your computer.

Your best choice is pwnagetool, either making your own custom ipsw (if you own a mac) or downloading a ready made custom ipsw for your model iPhone.

Once you have restored with this custom ipsw, you can reinstall ultrasn0w to get your unlock back.

Unfortunately I have to use Windows.

It is still possible to use a pwnagetool custom ipsw, you just need to google for a pre-made one for your iPhone model. Search for iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Custom_Restore.ipsw and make sure you grab one that was made with activation enabled.

Then, with your iPhone attached to your PC via USB cable. Hold down the shift key and click on the restore button in iTunes, this gives you the option to browse for the IPSW you downloaded earlier.

As your iPhone is already jailbroken it will accept this custom ipsw just fine.

Now I have successfully restored my 3Gs 3.12 iphone without ticking activate in the Pwnage 3.14 general section, do I need to use Cydia Ultrasn0w to be able to use another ( Tmobile) SIM when in the USA?

Yea you need ultrasn0w for anything but AT&T sim

Hello Olethros

Can you provide further guidance on how to update 3.0.1 JB to 3.1.2 for iPhone 3G using tools on MS Windows XP?

I was not able to JB this phone using blackra1n utility while 3.1.2 was installed on the phone. I downgraded the firmware and jB the phone using qickpwn and redsn0w.

Olethros, but is it possible to make custom ipsw with fresh Cydia (no apss preconfigured) as I could do with redsnow in 3.0? I tried to make cutom ipsw, but get more than 30 Cydia apps. My battery drains quickly and I can't remove them, because of dependencies to Cydia essentials.

It is definitely possible.
You can even make custom ipsw without cydia installed at all.

Battery drain is likely because you have invalid push certs and have not disabled push properly. Or because you restored from iTunes backup.

Maybe you can provide more info or say where can I find info?
I want to make a custom ipsw with Cydia. In Cydia I want to have apps as little as possible and install what I need after restore.
I thought that only selected packages are packed into fw, but get more of them.
