Question [3GS 3.1 15.11.07] Need some pointers

Hi,

I have just acquired a iPhone 3GS 3.1 (7C144) - Modem FW 05.11.07.

What I like to know is :

1) What are my options for jailbreaking the iPhone ; Which is the best options?

2) Does JailBreaking affect/change baseband? Does it matter?

3) Is it true that because of the Modem FW 05.11.07, this phone cannot be unlocked at this time?

Thanks in advance

1. best option is to use pwnagetool. If phone never jailbroken before, you need to have a mac + pwnagetool. run through pwnagetool and at the end when it asks if phone has been pwned before, answer no --> that will put phone in a special recovery mode. From there you can restore using the custom firmware.

2. jailbreak does not change/affect baseband

3. 05.11.07 cannot be unlocked.

If you are already on BB 05.11.07 then BlackRa1n is quicker and easier.

Thanks for the info.

What advantages does Jailbreaking with Pwnage have over using Blackra1n?

If you are currently on 3.0.1 or previous you can buld a custom FW with Pwnage-Tool. This will prevent you from updating your baseband if you need the unlock.

Pwnage also allows for custom partition size, custom boot logo and you can cook packages in to the FW. BlackRa1n is the equivalent of RedSn0w which has not been updated for 3.12

Thanks.

I understand the Custom logo part, but you totally lost me with Custom Partition size and cook packages, what does that mean exactly?

Thanks again for all the responses

Apparently changing the partition size used to be quite important on the original iPhone - I'm really not to certain what effect it has on the 3G/3GS - O'm sure someone will enlighten us!

As for cooking packages - you can create a FW that already has programs included so you might, for example, include UltraSn0w so when you restore your FW you already have the programs you need without having to download and install again.

Thanks for the explaination. It seeems that the cooking part is not really that important. Now to see if someone can enlighten me/us on the importance of partitioning ability.
