I have a factory unlocked 32GB 3Gs iPhone that I purchased from an official Australian Apple Store so it isn't bound to any carrier.
I would like to jailbreak my iPhone on my Windows XP computer, so I can get access to Cydia and use the applications it has to offer. However, I have a few questions I would like to ask before I do since I'm a iPhone newbie: 1) Which program will I need to run to jailbreak and unlock my iPhone? Can someone link me to the tutorials and installations I'll need? 2) Does jailbreaking delete my iPhone's "factory unlocked" status? 3) If Apple releases a new firmware update, should I restore my iPhone before I update, and then jail-break the iPhone again? 4) If I want to revert my jailbroken iPhone back to being factory unlocked, how would I do so? 5) EDIT: Also, will jailbreaking affect my mobile service? Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Same situation here, see my signature. Quote:
iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.0 Using RedSn0w (Mac) or iClarified - iPhone - How to Jailbreak Your iPhone 3GS on OS 3.0 Using RedSn0w (Windows) All links are in there. Dont get confused: iPhone OS 3.0 is used for Jailbreak, even though you got 3.0.1 on the iPhone, this is ok. While jailbreaking, I only check Cydia to be installed. Quote:

![]() Can I also ask after I jailbreak, do I need to use the tutorial to unlock my iPhone as well so I can make calls or will the jailbreak be sufficient in itself? |

Your iPhone 3GS has to be at Apple stock firmware 3.0.1 first AND has to be activated. This is done via iTunes when you connect the factory unlocked iPhone to iTunes 8.2.1. When done, the activation record is put on the iPhone, this is important for factory unlocked and legit contract iPhones! Redsn0w then "sees" the official activation record and does not put a fake activation on the iPhone when jailbreaking. The unlock is already done on your iPhone, it is a feature of the factory unlocked. So you dont need any unlock software. In this scenario (factory unlocked iPhone 3GS) Redsn0w only does the Jailbreak and installs Cydia. It does not activate or unlock the iPhone cause this is (legit, official) already done via iTunes.

Hey guys,
What if 2 guys activate their Locked-iPhones, with the same AT&T SIM, Will they both get the same activation file from itunes, and receive each other PUSH's for applications on either of their handsets. Or iTunes won't activate another iPhone with a previuosly activated SIM. |
