first of all thanks for taking the time to read.
I have an iPhone 3G which unfortunately has a nasty crack on it's backside, which in turn apparently broke the wifi card.
So, no wifi signal, and I'm trying to unlock.
I've tried with the custom package for PwnageTool, the custom package for redsn0w, and that new windows unlock from the shell thing.
When I jailbreak and install cydia and ultrasn0w from the start, the first boot works fine, I can see ultrasn0w in the list of apps in cydia (although it's pink, what does that mean? this is with both pwnagetool and redsn0w), but when I reboot to activate ultrasn0w, the iPhone just hangs on it's little apple logo and stays there for a few minutes, until it reboots itself and start all over again.
The other unlock method, from windows with the shell .bat file, doesn't work and I get the common error "shell could not recover' to which I was unable to find a solution.
Anyone have any ideas why the iPhone won't boot up once I have ultrasn0w installed?
If I just put cydia without ultrasn0w it works fine, but then I can't download ultrasn0w because of no internet connection.

EDIT: Using PwnageTool 3.0, redsn0w 0.8, ultrasn0w 0.9 and the correct firmware

Try restore in DFU

use readsn0w rahter than PwnageTool
