ummm...
I don't recall seeing anything like you describe.
Basically the iphone can read / import contact from SIM but not write/export contact to SIM.

There is nothing out there to do this. The iSIM program for the 2G works only on iPhone OS 1.x which can't be run on the 3G or 3GS. I have personally tested that it is not possible to hack it to work on iPhone OS 3.0

This question has been asked before and I can't actually understand why anyone wants to store numbers on a SIM in this day and age. There have always been severe limits on the way numbers can be stored on a SIM card. You can only store one number per name and you have a limit of 200 numbers that can be stored on the SIM.

With most phones able to either sync contacts to a cloud or at least to an address book on your own computer I can't see what value storing contacts on the SIM card has now.

@OP
There is an app called "Contact Tools" on appstore. Still not write/export to SIM.
The tool can export contact to txt, html, ldif and binary format.
You may want to google for more information. A video demo here: http://www.ttrix.com/contactstool_demo.html
I have no exprience with that app nor do I an advocate of it.

there's many reasons why someone like me would want their contacts on sim card. first of all...i switch phones every now and then...therefore when i switch phones my other phone can read contacts off my sim card. 2nd of all...my iphone doesn't seem to transfer my contacts from my phone to my car...or at least i can't find a way to do so...therefore i want my contacts from my iphone...onto sim so i can put into another phone to bluetooth all in my car....headache...i know.
