Default Got ECID SHSH on file, Sauriks Server in Hosts but fail to restore to 3.0!

Hi everybody,

up to now I am running a jailbrocken unlocked 3GS on 3.0. Using Cydia I got my ECID SHSH on file.

Now I had some bad problems with instability on my phone and thought restoring it via the built-in restore mechanism would be a good idea. Proved wrong, it wasnt.

It crashed during restoring itself.

So I now tried to restore back to 3.0 which I thought would be too much of a problem having my files synced with cydia and Sauriks Server in the hosts.

Wrong again... even with Sauriks server I'm getting the message that the firmware cannot be restored because "This device isn't eligible for the requested build".

- I ran "make your life easier" in cydia
- I got sauriks server in the hosts
- I'm trying to restore 3.0

what am I doing wrong that I'm failing?

Please help me out - Im devestated!

Thank you very much!

Um did you just get your ecid or you had it since 3.0? What version do they list in cydia?

not sure i understand what you mean.

i was running 3.0 ever since i bought it and jailbroke/unlocked it right from the first day.

some days ago - half a week ago or so - i did the "make your life easier thing" which first showed me something like "you are now able to have your ECID captured" in the status bar and later, when I started cydia again said "you have your ECID on file".

If you open cydia right now, it should say "This device has a 3.X ECID SHSH on file." If it does not say 3.0 then you do not have 3.0 ecid on the server and will not be able to restore back to it. If you got your ecid recently then most likely its going to be 3.1 because apple does not sign 3.0 or 3.0.1 anymore.

ouch... that hurts.

i would love to check but at the moment the phone is stuck somewhere in nirvana between restoring itself (the built in settings-general-restore thing) and DFU mode and therefore bricked until my next iTunes restore.

So as I am still running the old baseband and I was jailbroken and unlocked I believe I DO have the chance to build a custom pwned ipsw with the new PwnageTool which does not upgrade the baseband and ultrasn0w me free again, right?

Now the huge challenge is to find a MAC as I own only pcs. I know there are tons of custom ipsws out there but I am afraid that some kid who built them might have checked that "Enable baseband update" checkbox and I'm bricking my iPhone even further with the new baseband ;(

Any input?

That is correct, since you jailbroken your iphone in 3.0 you are able to use a custom ipsw to upgrade to 3.1 w/o upgrading the baseband. Your only hope is to find a friend with a mac, buy yourself a mac, or hopefully find a legit one online. Maybe a PC with virtual machine running mac os? (if that is possible)

thanks for backing my thoughts up there! i heard success stories about building ipsws on a leopard vmware even while it is said to be a major pain in the ***. anyway i'm downloading one as we are writing.

next to that I'll try to find a mac from somebody at work tomorrow... hope there is someone who can bring a power/ibook on tuesday. cross your fingers

Thank you very much for your kind replies!

I today managed to get hold of a mac to actually generate my custom ipsw 3.1.2 which I could be sure of not upgrading my baseband after all.

So I restored to 3.1.2, installed ultrasn0w and kaboooom, jailbroken unlocked 3.1.2

My 3G was a little fuzzy, but after restoring network settings and entering the APN again everything works like charm. I'm just installing TomTom Navi, Office Mobile and a few other goodies from Appulo :-). Thanky for y'all help.

PS: The Solution to the "cydia stored your ECID" miracle was that it stored my 3.1 ECID... so I could restore to 3.1... if I wanted to.

@amq,
At this point, it is unlikely that you will ever need to restore to the original firmware 3.1/3.1.2 from apple because that will update your baseband which will defeat ultrasn0w.

Keep in mind that your phone is now jailbroken at 3.1/3.1.2, meaning your iboot is pwned. YOU MUST NOT use original firmware from Apple. From now, ONLY USE custom firmware from pwnagetool for your restoring need.

Custom firmware will keep your baseband as is and also keep the phone pwned and you will be ready for the next jailbreak train from DEV TEAM

ps: you may want to look at the firmware umbrella thread ... it's another way to keep a copy of your ecid/shsh on your local machine.

Thanks dtube.

I'm aware of losing my pwned baseband in case of being stupid enaugh to use the official freeware.
