i have an iphone 3gs out of box. most likely version 3.1. i don't know since i haven't activated it.

i need to jailbreak. i built my custom firmware with pwnagetool 3.1.4, put my phone into dfu mode and began restoring. it keeps saying "error 1600". what am i doing wrong? thank you.

use ih8sn0w 's ireb tool... either that... or use blackra1n at blackra1n to jailbreak your 3.1 first then use itune to update that custom firmware to 3.1.2 if u want but there's really no point to it

what do you mean by "no point" just need my iphone jail broken. if it can accomplish this, then i am happy.

He meant there's no point of upgrading to 3.1.2

Anyways, if you just want to jailbreak, use blackra1n. And if you want to upgrade or restore, and want to use ultrasn0w for unlocking, use a custom firmware that preservers the baseband.

i read that blackra1n doesn't activate. i need it activated. anyways, thanks, guy.

i have successfully jailbroken and activated my iphone 3gs 3.1.2 with pwngetool custom firmware but my iphone have no signal with at&t. anyone know what's going on?

the iphone worked fully when i had it jailbroken with blackra1n. i am thinking about restoring it with my custom pwngetool firmware again. any suggestion or comment would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

blackra1n won't activate the phone but it will put it in a jailbroken state which means you can then restore using an activated custom ipsw made with pwnage so effectively you'll have to jailbreak twice. first with blackra1n then with pwnage

you need to NOT check activation in Pwnage if you are going to use ATTUsa, which does its own activation.

you could restore to stock apple FW3.1.2 while using your ATT Sim, which will activate the phone. Then you use blackra1n to jailbreak.

You dont need hacktivation from pwnage, you already have activation from ATT.

i have a new OOB iphone 3gs with 3.1.2 pre installed and not activated.

if i jailbreak it with blackra1n rc2 it is still not activated so iTunes doesnt even give me the option to restore with a custom firmware!!!

i tried ih8sn0w as well. but it does not really help with the 3gs.

What can i do to activate it?? in order to jailbreak with pwnage.please help

As there is no unlock for 3.1.2 OTB 3GS yet, I don't see how hacktivation will help you get more than a fancy iPod Touch 3rd gen.

You're a bit stuck if you can't legitimately activate it at the moment.

You might be able to make it work by restoring with a custom 3.1.2 ipsw created in pwnage tool for the mac that has hacktivation enabled and then using blackra1n to jumpstart the iPhone each time it starts up.
