Hey guys, i ordered a 3GS 32GB iphone from australia, suppose to be factory unlocked. Will be coming in tomorrow but i just wanted to ask you guys, are there any precautions i should follow? I should just put my tmobile sim and connect it to itunes to activate it?
Main question is: If it has 3.1 from factory, can i restore from the backup of my old 3G that had 3.0? Will it get jailbroken or it will not do anything? Thanks in advance

No real precautions required. I have a factory unlocked 3GS and it was just a case of inserting the SIM and letting it activate/unlock through iTunes.
The unlock can take a few minutes to happen (it waits for a response to a check in a database at Apple). Activation happened straight away. If your old 3G was jailbroken, you may find restoring from that backup gives you poor battery life or other weird issues. I would try it first and see how you go. If you have problems after the restore from backup you can try a reset all network settings. If that does not help restore the phone to 3.1 and set the phone up as new. |
