Default Orange UK

Hi. I have a 3GS iphone now running 3.1 (thanks to the dev team!) which is a UK O2 PAYG phone.

I was wondering, when the iPhone comes to Orange UK later this year will I be able to use my iPhone without messing around with all the unlocking. I.E will I be able to officially activate my iPhone and use it with my existing Orange contract SIM the same way you can use any O2 SIM in an iPhone (i know things like visual voicemail will probably not work but I am not fussed about that).

Does anyone have any ideas?

From what I’ve read my understanding is that Orange & Vodafone UK will be locking the phones on there own networks with a dedicated iphone contracts.

But Carrier bundles MMS & APN settings etc may be easyer to do in the future.

I guessed the phones will be locked but arent iPhones locked Apple end not handset end? What I am getting at is if I went to activate with a Orange SIM in would it let me do it as Orange will be supported? Or would Apple have a database of which IMEI's belong to which carrier or something?
