I want to unlock my iphone 3gs but you need to use cydia to do that but i cant get into my phone because i dont have a valid sim-card and i dont know wich provider its locked to. Is there a way to unlock the phone without using a sim-card. i tried many sim-cards but can only make emergency calls and itunes says that the sim-card is not valid.

Try searching and looking at the sticky posts. This kind of question has been asked many times before.

You need a SIM card to activate (either officially or hacktivation via jailbreak) and also to unlock.

The only way to unlock without already having a SIM card is to buy a factory unlocked iPhone.

You need to jailbreak and unlock (if your phone is already 3.1 then you need to wait)

thats to bad. The only thing i can do know is find out witch provider its locked to and get there sim-card to get in to the phone.

To be clear.

The order is:

1. check what OS is installed on the iPhone. You can find out what OS the iPhone is running by plugging the phone into a machine and opening iTunes. Do NOT allow it iTunes to update the iPhone.
2. Jailbreak if OS is 3.0 or 3.0.1 with a working SIM card inserted from the carrier you want to use the phone with.
3. Unlock using ultrasn02 via cydia with a working SIM card inserted from the carrier you want to use the phone with.

Read the jailbreak and unlock guides I linked to and read some of the forum posts to get a better understanding of this.

Be very careful to not upgrade to 3.1 until you understand how to do this safely. An upgrade to Apple's official 3.1 will mean you may never be able to unlock.

So if the phone is locked to T-Mobile can i use another provider to unlock the phone. Because when my phone is pluged in with the simcard i want to use it says that the simcard is not supported and where can i see wich OS it has. Do you have to click somewhere?

And the only thing i can do now with my phone is make emergency calls. When i read tutorials they say you need a simcard from the provider its locked to and that you cant use other providers.

best way, easiest way, and safest way is to borrow a friend's sim who have att and plug it in then follow the guide then after all that is done, put your t-mobile sim card in or other carrier then reboot your phone and voila..... u can make calls!
